Loyka Binocular Refractometer for Honey

  • The Loyka honey refractometer is a precision measuring device used by beekeepers to check the quality of honey.

  • The device is designed to measure the brix, water content, and baume values of honey.

  • It offers easy and quick product analysis for honey producers, as well as jam and marmalade producers.

  • It can also be used as a honey moisture meter.

  • The prism needs to receive a sufficient amount of light for easy reading of measurement results.

  • Zero adjustment can be made using the calibration fluid included with the device; focus adjustment is provided through the binocular part.

  • It features ATC (Automatic Temperature Compensation). ATC compensation range: 10 degrees - 20 degrees

  • The prism must be protected from impacts and scratches. A scratch-free prism always provides clear results.

  • After measurement, the prism should be cleaned with a soft cloth.

  • Accessories included with the product:

    • Calibration fluid

    • Hard carrying case

    • Small screwdriver for calibration

    • Plastic dropper

    • Cleaning cloth

    • User manual

Information About Honey Quality and Water Content

  • This refractometer device is specifically designed to measure the water content in honey.

  • The higher the water content in honey, the lower its quality.

  • The maximum water content required in quality honey is: %18

  • Honey with a water content between %20 - %23 is generally used in short-lived products.

  • Over time, honey with excessive water content may undergo fermentation.

  • Constant monitoring is required for the production of quality honey.

How to Measure?

  1. Hold the refractometer in your hand so that the inclined prism part where the sample is dropped faces the light.

  2. Observe through the binocular part with the cover closed and read the value on the measurement table.

  3. If the values are not clear, adjust the focus by turning the adjustment ring on the binoculars.

How to Make Zero Adjustment?

  1. Open the prism cover.

  2. Drop 1-2 drops of calibration fluid onto the inclined prism surface.

  3. Place the rectangular prism over the calibration fluid without closing the cover.

  4. A color change will be seen on the measurement table; part of the blue background will turn white.

  5. There is a line on the right of the number "78" on the scale.

  6. If the white section aligns with this line, the calibration is correct.

  7. If not, use a screwdriver to turn the calibration screw to achieve this alignment.
