Loyka Wine Refractometer

  • Loyka Wine Refractometer measures brix in the range of 0% to 40%, and approximately alcohol value degree in the range of 0% to 25%, meaning it measures potential alcohol yield.

  • Loyka wine refractometer is designed to test the sugar content of grapes and to predict the alcohol degree of wine that will be produced from these grapes.

  • With this refractometer, you can select the ideal grapes to make wine easier and faster. Loyka wine refractometer measures sugar content in the values between (0 . . . 40% brix).

  • Most importantly, this refractometer measures approximately alcohol value degree in the range of (0 . . . 25%).

  • It can measure the brix value of other samples up to 40% brix, as well as the brix value of wine.

  • This refractometer device does not require any power source and is very easy to use.

  • To read measurement results more easily, ensure that the prism receives enough light.

  • The calibration setting with the calibration liquid that comes with the device and the clarity setting from the scope are done.

  • This refractometer device has an ATC feature. The ATC compensation range is 10°C....20°C.

  • The prism of the refractometer must be protected from impacts and scratches. You will always get clear results with a scratch-free prism.

  • For more quality and clear results, the measurement prism should be cleaned with a soft cloth after each use.

  • The accessories that come with the refractometer include calibration liquid, hard carrying case, small screwdriver for calibration setting, plastic dropper, cleaning cloth, and user manual.

HOW IS WINE QUALITY DETERMINED?

  • Good wine can only be made from good grapes. To obtain the best grape or, if you have your own vineyard, to harvest at the most suitable time, the point to pay attention to is to catch the period when the grapes reach physiological and phenolic maturity.

  • Physiological maturity refers to the formation of acid, sugar, all aroma, and flavors specific to the type of grape, and phenolic maturity. With these refractometers, we can measure both sugar and approximate alcohol value. The result obtained from the measurement with a refractometer is very close to reliable, but there is a 4-5% solid matter not used in fermentation.

  • By multiplying the result we obtain in Brix by a coefficient between 0.52 and 0.61, we find a value close to the alcohol degree that the wine should have. The device automatically provides you with this value. The sugar content values that should be (as Brix) are 22-24 Brix for table wines, and 26 and above Brix for sweet wines.

HOW TO MEASURE?

  • Hold the refractometer in your hand with the inclined prism where the sample is dripped at the end facing the light, and try to read the value on the measurement table with the eyepiece part of the device in a closed position.

  • If the values you see are not clear, you can make a clarity adjustment by turning the adjustment ring just above the eyepiece to turn the measurement table left and right.

Making the Zero Adjustment:

  • First, open the prism cover and drop 1-2 drops of pure water onto the inclined prism surface and close the cover slowly.

  • Thus; a thin layer of water will remain between the prism surface and the cover.

  • Adjust the dark-light colored separation image seen around the 0(zero) line of the measurement table by turning the Calibration Screw with the help of a screwdriver to ensure that the dark-light separation coincides exactly with the zero line of the measurement table if it is not already.
